Hyundai’s new concept car blends gaming and car culture

Hyundai Motor Company has introduced its new design concept car, Insteroid, in Seoul, Korea. This vehicle reflects Hyundai’s innovative approach to automotive design, combining elements from gaming with a high degree of customization aimed at appealing to younger drivers. Insteroied is based on the Hyundai Inster, an electric sub-compact SUV that has gained popularity since its launch last year and was a finalist for the 2025 World Car of the Year award.

Developed by Hyundai’s European design team, Insteroid is a concept vehicle that emphasizes a sporty aesthetic and user experience. Its name merges ‘Inster’ with ‘Steroid,’ symbolizing its dynamic design. The concept car aims to challenge traditional automotive norms and redefine the sporty electric vehicle category.

Simon Loasby, Senior Vice President and Head of Hyundai Design Center, stated, “Insteroid is a celebration of pure fun – a journey where we explored new ways to ignite emotion and imagination in every detail.” The car features a sporty design with enhancements such as an extended body and track-optimized wheels. Inside, the cockpit is designed for an immersive experience, complete with adjustable elements and a unique sound signature.

Insteroid also showcases Hyundai’s commitment to sustainability through the use of eco-conscious materials, including 3D knit fabric made from recycled yarns. The vehicle was unveiled during a media event at the Peaches D8NE cultural space in Seoul, which included interactive gaming experiences related to the car.

Hyundai plans to display Insteroid at the Seoul Mobility Show from April 3 to April 13, allowing the public to engage with this concept vehicle. The Inster model has seen significant global demand, and Hyundai intends to expand its availability to additional markets in 2025, further enhancing its presence in the automotive industry.
