Porsche wireless charging wins TopGear US TG Tech Award

Top Gear has picked Porsche’s wireless charging solution as the TG Tech Award recipient in the TopGear.com U.S. car awards for 2026, highlighting a feature aimed at making EV charging simpler in everyday use. Top Gear US’s Marques Brownlee saw the technology in action during a real-world demonstration.

Porsche says the recently unveiled Cayenne Electric will optionally offer the wireless charging solution for U.S. customers, with availability expected in late 2026. The company frames the option as a convenience-focused upgrade designed to reduce the steps required to start charging.

‟This award acknowledges a leap forward in automotive tech that has a tangible and positive benefit to the user experience” said Jack Rix, Editor-in-Chief of Top Gear. “Porsche’s new wireless charging system for the Cayenne Electric works brilliantly and just became the ultimate, and most convenient, EV accessory.

‟Among the many innovative features of the Cayenne Electric, our engineers really focused on customer convenience – and a major step in this was to make the charging experience completely hands off” said Timo Resch, President and CEO of Porsche Cars North America. “Top Gear’s recognition of this feature means a lot to us, particularly as it follows the team being able to test the technology for themselves.”

The Cayenne Electric is the first Porsche to optionally support inductive charging, which charges at up to 11 kW. Porsche says the system only requires the user to park above a floor plate, after which the charging process starts automatically.
