2026 Jeep Cherokee debuts hybrid power, 500 mile range target

Jeep unveiled the 2026 Cherokee in Brooklyn, introducing a new 1.6 liter turbo four hybrid that the company estimates at 37 mpg combined with more than 500 miles of range per tank. The midsize SUV returns with a larger footprint, updated technology, and standard 4×4, and is scheduled to reach dealers in late 2025, starting with Limited and Overland trims.

The hybrid propulsion system pairs an internal combustion engine with two electric motors and a battery for a stated 210 horsepower and 230 pound feet of torque. Stellantis says it is the first Jeep brand hybrid system to launch in North America under its multi energy strategy. Propulsion system production is slated for the Dundee Engine Plant in Michigan, while vehicle assembly will take place at Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico.

Jeep positions the Cherokee as more efficient and more capable than before. Active Drive I 4×4 is standard, with Selec Terrain drive modes for Auto, Sport, Snow, and Sand or Mud. The company cites best in class approach and departure angles of 19.6 and 29.4 degrees, an 18.8 degree breakover angle, and 8 inches of ground clearance. Compared with the previous generation, cargo capacity is up by 30 percent, aided by a new rotary gear selector and a reorganized console.

Every 2026 Cherokee includes a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.3 inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Uconnect 5 with over the air update capability. Standard driver assistance features include automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, Intersection Collision Assist, blind spot monitoring with rear cross path detection, rear park assist with rear automatic braking, Drowsy Driver Detection, and Active Driving Assist, a Level 2 system with adaptive cruise control. A new Connect One services bundle is standard for 10 years, covering OTA updates, a smartphone app, and automatic SOS, with an optional Connect Wi Fi Plus subscription for unlimited data and additional features.

Options vary by trim and include a dual pane sunroof, a foot activated power liftgate, a 360 degree camera, a digital rearview mirror, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, a windshield wiper de icer, a front tire to curb view, turn signal activated blind spot alerts, premium audio, Alexa in vehicle voice control, and AppMarket for in screen apps and connected upgrades. The interior uses non leather materials and recycled carpeting, with a Global Black theme standard and an Arctic interior available on Laredo, Limited, and Overland.

Pricing starts at 36,995 dollars for the entry level Cherokee, including a 1,995 dollar destination charge. The Laredo begins at 39,995 dollars. The Limited and Overland, arriving first in late 2025, start at 42,495 and 45,995 dollars. Entry and Laredo trims are expected in early 2026. Jeep promoted the reveal with LL COOL J’s “Mama Said Knock You Out” referenced in a 60 second launch video titled “America’s Original Influencer,” underscoring the brand’s bid to reassert the Cherokee in the heart of the midsize segment.
