Hyundai announces the Ioniq 9, a three-row electric SUV

Hyundai Motor Company has unveiled the Ioniq 9, a three-row, fully electric SUV that combines advanced technology with a spacious design. Presented at the Goldstein House in Los Angeles, the vehicle is part of Hyundai’s strategy to expand its Ioniq lineup and strengthen its position in the EV market. Sales are planned to begin in Korea and the United States in the first half of 2025, followed by a rollout in Europe and other markets.

The Ioniq 9 features a 110.3 kWh battery, offering a WLTP-projected range of 620 km. It uses the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), enabling fast charging from 10% to 80% in approximately 24 minutes under optimal conditions. The SUV will be available in rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations, with performance varying across different models.

The interior is designed to provide a lounge-like atmosphere with flexible seating options, including swiveling second-row seats and relaxation seats with massage functions in some markets. Sustainability is emphasized through materials such as recycled fabrics and bio-based paints. Cargo space is maximized with foldable third-row seats, offering up to 132.3 liters of luggage capacity.

Externally, the Ioniq 9 incorporates Hyundai’s “Aerosthetic” design principles, focusing on aerodynamics and streamlined aesthetics. Features such as active air flaps and a drag coefficient of 0.259 contribute to the vehicle’s efficiency. A range of new exterior colors and customization options for wheels and interior trims is also available.

Technological advancements include AI voice recognition, over-the-air software updates, and Hyundai’s Features on Demand service, which allows customers to purchase additional digital functionalities. Safety is prioritized with advanced driver assistance systems, including collision avoidance, lane-keeping assist, and blind-spot monitoring.

The Ioniq 9 continues Hyundai’s commitment to electrification and sustainable mobility, aligning with the company’s goal to offer a comprehensive EV lineup by 2030.
