The spread of the coronavirus has put a damper on much of the auto industry. It is difficult to build cars if the pants aren’t open. With the end of the 3rd quarter upon, we’re getting delivery numbers from all the electric vehicle manufacturers. Tesla continues to deliver.
For the quarter ending September 30, Tesla delivered 139,300 total vehicles and produced 145,036. Model 3 and Model Y deliveries were 124,100 and Model S and Model X deliveries were 15,200.
Model 3 and Model Y continue to be the breadwinners for the Tesla lineup, being the least expensive models and also offering the latest in Tesla’s technology, but there are still some who want the larger size or options of the X and S.
Tesla notes that its delivery numbers are possibly a bit conservative. They only count a car as delivered if it is transferred to the customer and all the paperwork is correct. The company states that can cause a variance in the delivery numbers of 0.5% or more.
Tesla’s strong success isn’t surprising as the addition of the small crossover to the lineup was undoubtedly going to increase sales. Combined with the plant in Fremont being open the entire quarter and not shutdown due to statewide coronavirus restrictions, the company could operate full steam ahead.
