Porsche previews electric Cayenne with hill climb record

Porsche has provided an early look at the upcoming all-electric Cayenne, which will be sold alongside the existing gasoline and hybrid versions and is intended to offer performance, everyday usability, long-distance comfort, and off-road capability. A near-production prototype ran at the Shelsley Walsh hill climb in England, a 914-meter course with gradients of up to 16.7 percent that has hosted competition since 1905.

Driven by Gabriela Jílková, the electric SUV completed the course in 31.28 seconds, more than four seconds quicker than the previous record for an SUV. The car passed the 60-yard timing point in 1.94 seconds, a figure previously achieved at the event only by single-seater racing cars on slick tires. The prototype used Porsche Active Ride suspension, which keeps the body level under braking, steering, and acceleration, and is still undergoing final calibration.

Beyond straight-line performance, Porsche tested everyday utility by towing a classic car and trailer weighing about three tons. The company confirms a targeted towing capacity of up to 7,716 pounds, matching the current ICE Cayenne. Development chief Michael Schätzle noted that electrification permits performance levels demonstrated at Shelsley Walsh while retaining the model’s established practicality.

The camouflaged vehicle will appear next at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 10 to July 13, 2025. Porsche continues to refine the production version ahead of its market introduction, while stating that the recorded performance figures were achieved with components at production specification.
